WHO iS KEDAMONO DREAMS?

kedamono dreams is a collection of things, but for the scope of this interview i am a musician and painter from extremely rural Ohio.

WHAT iNSPiRES YOU?

a lot of things ring with me, but the main thing that inspires me is what i feel as this cosmic & constantly present melancholy energy. aside from that, i draw from peaches, plums, & so many different kinds of music, movies, & other media. my head is so open i'm surprised my brain hasn't fallen out yet!

WHAT EQUiPMENT/SOFTWARE DO YOU USE?

i used OpenMPT & Audacity a lot when i was on Windows, but have yet to find a satisfying way of bringing that over to Linux. My physical equipment includes a bunch of guitar pedals including pitch shifters, delays, & modulators, a wonderful heirloom Roland JC-120 amp, a few nice guitars, a wonderful Fender Mustang bass, & a DX-27 i use sometimes when i need a synth. i record using a 4-track cassette portastudio & Audacity.

WHAT WAS THE PROCESS LiKE FOR HOLY SHiT iT'S FRIDAY

for that track, i had first pitched up a copy of "last friday night" by katy perry in audacity because that song always felt like it was super fast to me and i wanted to show others how fast it felt in my brain. after i did that, i brought it into OpenMPT where i looped the chorus using pattern length and the tempo, and then using/stacking the built-in effects i gave it a lot of swirl and crunch. all of the cool noise and stuff on that comes from feedbacking and tweaking DirectX echo, chorus, and distortion plugins.

WHAT WAS THE PROCESS LiKE iN YOUR COLLABORATiON WiTH OPAL17?

opal17 & i sort of struck up a collaboration out of the blue when i said i wanted to do a cover of warm blood (carly rae jepsen) & they thought it would be a fun thing to do so we went into DMs & did it! since i don't have fl studio, opal did the heavy lifting of production, with me providing samples, vocals, & ideas for the direction of the sound, etc. opal17 was super fun to work with & hopefully we'll be getting together and working on some more tracks soon.

WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR KEDAMONO DREAMS?

eventually, i plan on putting out what i'll consider to be my first real album with all new material called Flanger Heaven, but this is far in the future. i'd also like to do some concept albums about missing people, & floating in space (very cliche!)
